Water Treatment Plant

The City of Havelock operates a state-of-the-art water treatment facility including chloramines disinfection and corrosion control capability. The current plant capacity is 2.80 MGD, and stores a total of 2.20 MG in three elevated storage tanks and a ground storage tank. The City's average daily flow is about 1.2 MGD. The water plant meets or exceeds all of the state requirements for THM's, HAA's, and lead and copper, etc.

Where the Water Goes

After you wash dishes, take a shower, brush your teeth, or wash a load of clothes, the used water travels through another system of pipes to Havelock's wastewater treatment plant where impurities are removed before returning the water to the environment.

Wastewater Treatment Plant

The City of Havelock operates an advanced wastewater treatment facility including tertiary treatment and nutrient removal capability. The current plant capacity is 2.25 MGD, and the City holds an NPDES permit to discharge 2.25 MGD into the Neuse River. The City's NPDES permit limits are among the most stringent in North Carolina with a Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) limit of 5 milligrams per liter in the summer and 10 milligrams per liter in the winter, a NH3-N monthly average of 1.0 milligrams per liter, a total phosphorous quarterly average of 2.0 milligrams per liter, and a yearly total nitrogen limit of 21,400 pounds at our current flow rate. The facility currently discharges an average of 1.46 MGD.
