Utility Service Worker I

Position Description:Under general supervision, performs responsible unskilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, replacement, repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines. Work also includes making taps to water and sewer mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves, reading meters, connecting and disconnecting utility service, and making repairs to the water and sewer system. Individual will work in both inside and outside environments, as well as in extreme hot and cold weather. Subject to on-call and call back work. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:Working knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance, and repair of utility lines. Skill in the operation of light and medium size construction equipment. Must be able to physically perform very heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; 50 pounds of force frequently; and 20 pounds of force constantly. Must possess the visual acuity to operate mobile equipment such as loaders and dump trucks in a safe manner, to fit pipes and other parts, read gauges, and make written records. Ability to read utility line maps, operation manuals, and service manuals, as well as the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Graduation from high school and experience in constructions-related utility work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications:Possession of a N.C. Driver's License. Certification by the State of NC in Water Distribution or ability to obtain within 6 months (based upon city and class schedule). Must pass pre-employment drug screenings.
Bartender

Position Description:Individuals will serve as bartenders for scheduled functions at the Havelock Tourist Center. Individuals will operate cash/open bar and will be responsible for the set-up and breakdown of the bar area.
Required Qualifications:Individuals must have at least 1 year of experience, be at least 21 years of age and possess excellent customer service skills. Cash handling experience required.

Position Description:Individuals will be responsible for overseeing the client utilization of facilities at the Havelock Tourist Center. Will be responsible for opening and closing the facility for scheduled functions, remain on-site to assist the client utilizing the facility, as well as troubleshoot any problems that may arise.

Firefighter / EMT-Paramedic

Position Description:Performs fire fighting, rescue and emergency treatment of the citizens of eastern craven county. Operates motorized fire suppression equipment and utilizes appropriate medical equipment; drives fire and/or emergency apparatus; performs related work as required. Applicant must be a self-starter that requires minimal supervision. ** Salary does not include overtime.
Required Qualifications:Graduation from an accredited high school, supplemented with additional advanced courses and seminars in fire service and EMT-Paramedic training. Experience at the fire engineer/EMT-P level in a fire fighting company preferred. Good working knowledge of local patient care protocols helpful.
Special Qualifications:Possession of an appropriate valid NC class B driver’s license; possession of NCEMT-Paramedic certification; Must be ACLS & PALS certified, completion of BTLS or PHTLS encouraged. Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screening, physical agility test and pre-employment competency written test. Completion of a scope of practice prior to employment.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor

Position Description:Performs complex technical and intermediate administrative work of the wastewater treatment plant, lift stations and related equipment. Plans, directs, supervises and participates in wastewater treatment plant and lift station operations and maintenance. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel. Successful applicant will participate with management in planning for current and future capacity needs and plant modifications for increased efficiency or regulatory compliance. Serves as Operator in Responsible Charge of a Grade IV wastewater plant.
Required Qualifications:Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in engineering, chemistry or related field and extensive wastewater treatment plant operations experience.
Special Qualifications:Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening. Possession of a Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Operator’s certificate issued by the State of North Carolina.
Water Treatment Plant Operator Grade B

Position Description:Performs intermediate skilled work in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant and related equipment. Successful applicant will take water samples, read gauges and charts, maintain plant equipment, inspect SCADA system; checks generators, softeners, filters, wells, chemical feed pumps, wells and other equipment for proper functioning.
Required Qualifications:Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by course work in chemistry or biology and considerable experience as a Water Treatment Plant Operator.
Special Qualifications:Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening. Possession of an appropriate CDL driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of a Grade B Well Operator's and Grade I Physical Chemical Operator’s certificates issued by the State of North Carolina. In the event that a fully qualified and suitable candidate isn’t identified, the City reserves the right to hire candidates with less than the required certifications as a “Trainee”, subject to the terms of the Havelock Personnel Policy regarding training, salary and probationary status. If hired as a Trainee, the employee shall be given a set period of time to achieve all required certifications.”
